On our holiday trip to Wilmington, NC from Doylestown, PA we wanted to stop in Richmond, VA since it is the half way point between our start and destination. We found Phoenix Garden that is a totally vegan Vietnamese restaurant owned by Phoenix, the chef, and Vi, a retired mechanic in Richmond, VA. It is easy to reach, right off of Route 95. They have only been open three months and serve delicious homemade Vietnamese food. They offer nine appetizers including spring rolls, corn nuggets, fries, chips and salsa, vegetarian chicken nuggets, fried tofu, summer rolls, dumplings, and a combination platter six appetizers. We ordered the sampler platter and enjoyed the spring rolls, corn nuggets, and vegetarian chicken nuggets. For lunch they only have one entree of Vegetarian Pho, which was a great dish to have on a cold December day. The Pho is a rice noodle soup cooked with fresh vegetables, vegetarian beef, vegetarian beef balls, tofu, mushrooms, onions, cilantro, and comes with bean sprouts, basil leaves, and lime wedge on the side to be added to your taste. We were they only ones in the restaurant at 11 am and we were greeted warmly and made to feel at home by Phoenix and Vi. They were so gracious that we felt we were actually visiting their house and not their place of business. We look forward to returning to Phoenix Garden next time we are in Richmond.
