Review: FreshaPeel Hummus

Who doesn’t like hummus, raise your hands. That’s what I thought. Everyone loves hummus, especially if it’s fresh and homemade, or tastes like homemade.

We first heard about FreshaPeel Hummus back in August, at Whole Foods Devon 18th anniversary event. Fran Costigan, our idol, walked off with the last container of chocolate hummus (and we’re still dying to try it).

The more I thought about it, the more they had me intrigued. Who would think of making chocolate hummus? These people are on to something. Intriguing and wonderful people they are. Richard LeBoon, co-owner of FreshaPeel, came to our ThanksLiving Potluck event last month with plenty of samples in hand. We tried the Spicy Black Bean (you’ll like this one if you like really spicy foods), Horseradish (not as spicy as the black bean), and, our favorite, Pumpkin Dessert. All three tasted fresh, like homemade, not pasty or mealy like other supermarket brands, because they’re made in small batches. The flavors are unique, so yummy and they sport a vegan symbol on the lid (thanks!).

Best of all, if you click on the picture below to enlarge it, you’ll see that 2 tablespoons of Pumpkin Dessert is only 52 calories and has 0 grams of fat! We tried it on cinnamon toast and pumpkin bread and it was divine. I haven’t tried this yet but it would probably taste pretty awesome on some veg french toast too.

If you can find them at a market near you we encourage you to try them.

  1. I will keep my eyes peeled for FreshaPeel Hummus at the market. I bet the horseradish hummus would taste divine on sandwiches!
