Gene Baur Speaking Tour Comes to PA

On Sunday, December 4, 2011, Gene Baur visited Doylestown, PA as part of Farm Sanctuary’s 25th Anniversary Speaking Tour. After hearing him speak earlier in the year, we knew we wanted to have him come to our area. This took some planning because we wanted to make sure we provided a great event for everyone in attendance.

That morning, we hosted Gene for breakfast at Sprig & Vine—a wonderful vegan restaurant close by in New Hope, PA. They set up a great menu for us—a breakfast entrée and a side dish, plus coffee and juice with toast, biscuits, and doughnuts to share. Together, two dozen of us ate and chatted up a storm about how we’ve been touched by animals, and how nice it is to meet like-minded people.

Following breakfast, we headed over to Doylestown to set up for Gene’s talk. We found a great location at the senior center in town. For about two hours, about 50 people came together to watch the Farm Sanctuary 25th anniversary video, hear Gene’s presentation, ask questions, have books signed, and learn more about how their food choices affect both their lives and the lives of billions of animals. Gene’s talk was inspiring and I’m happy to report that we received a lot of positive feedback about the event. All together, we were able to raise about $830 for Farm Sanctuary.

We’d like to thank Gene Baur, Claire Holzner, and Farm Sanctuary for helping us organize this event. We’re so grateful for their tremendous work and dedication to the animals.

We ran an IndieGoGo campaign to fund this event, as well as future events, and greatly appreciate the generosity of the following people who contributed to that fund. Roberta Reis, Christa Tinari, Ligia Monzoni, Stephanie Walker, Melissa Costello, Hari Bhajan Khalsa, Nancy Lee Wagner, plus an anonymous donor–thank you so much for you contributions!

There are more thank you’s to be extended to Sprig & Vine, Central Bucks Senior Center,  VegNews, Olsen Haus: Pure Vegan shoes, Turtle Mountain (for their So Delicious coconut milk), Eat in the Raw (makers of Parma), Edward & Sons (for their delicious Rice Snax crackers), Turtle Island Foods, Inc. (for their Torfurky coupons), Organic Splendor, Bee Free Honee, Gardein, Wild Success, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and Gunas. We really appreciate the support from these companies.

And a special thanks to everyone that came to the breakfast, and others who supported Farm Sanctuary by attending Gene’s speaking event. We’re all here to send a positive message about a plant-based diet. Thanks for showing up and speaking up!
